Sun Protection at its Finest with UV Protection Clothing
When we think about sun protection clothing we simply think about hats, long sleeve shirts, and pants to protect us from the sun’s direct rays. We think we are safe from the sun just because of our clothes are able to cover large portions of our skin. Well its pretty safe for us to be wrong for once in our lives though.
There are a large number of studies that have proven the little known fact that our lightweight clothes we usually wear are unable to protect us from ultraviolet rays. Even if you go out in the longest sleeves while wearing the most flowing pants during the summer, you will still be exposed to the sun’s powerful rays and the UV rays that come along with it. So the best solution to this problem is not layering clothes and long sleeves that will only make us sweat in the summer heat, but wearing the proper kind of sun protection clothing also known as UV protection clothing.
We all know the effects of long unprotected exposure to the sun, we know this because of the many studies that we can find all over regarding the topic but a vast majority of our knowledge comes from our very own personal experiences.
The right fabrics.
Now that you have the idea as to what uv blocking clothing is about, you should know that not all of them are created equally. Its now your job to choose the right fabric best suited for the task of protecting you from UV rays.
The first thing to discuss is the weave of the fabric itself, as a rule of thumb the looser the weave of the fabric is, the lesser amount of UV protection is provided to the one wearing the garment. To be able to determine the looseness or tightness of the weave, you take the fabric and hold it up to a light source – if a lot of light passes through the cloth then so will sunlight.
The next thing for us to talk about is the fabric’s color. You might have noticed darker colored fabric preventing more light from passing through it. This means a black shirt will be able to protect you from the sun more than a white shirt.
But you can only go so far with color and weave in terms of UV protection. UV protective clothing have been out on the market for some time now and it offers the best amount of UV protection, these clothing is made out of a tightly woven cloth that has been treated with UV inhibiting solutions to provide the wearer with the best protection. UV protective clothing is commonly made out of nylon but some are also made out of other fibers such as cotton and polyester. These uv clothing have features unique to them such as air vents to keep the wearer cool and an added roll up collar to add an extra level of neck protection.
